What happens in Billions
Lara is one of the most frightening people on a show full of frightening people, a wife who treats her husband’s enemies as her own. Season two gives her two scenes that are pure marriage. In episode six she and Bobby are in the pool, up against the edge, with the water sitting just low enough to make the point. In episode eleven they are in bed, and when he rolls away she stays exactly where she is, topless and unbothered, because this is her house.
These are short, and they are not the reason anyone watches Billions, but they are the reason a lot of people rewind it. Akerman has said more than once, including to Bullz-Eye back in 2007, that she is “definitely not prudish” about nudity when “it’s for a reason and not gratuitous,” and Lara is a woman who uses everything she has.
