The sequel promised no rules and no punishments, and then spent its last act proving that the Red Room was never really the problem.
What happens in Fifty Shades Darker
Ana came back on her own terms this time: no rules, no punishments, no more secrets. Two films in, the pair of them have survived an ex who stalks, a mentor from his past who won’t go away, and her creep of a boss. Late in the film they start in the shower, and by the time they get to the Red Room it is hers as much as his. She is the one setting the tone, and he is the one trying to keep up.
James Foley shoots the whole run warmer and glossier than the first film, all red light and wet skin, and Johnson plays it with the confidence of a woman who knows exactly what she is doing now. The shorter second clip is from earlier in the film: the two of them in the shower together, no restraints, just a couple who have decided to stop arguing for five minutes.
