What happens in The Killing of a Sacred Deer
Steven Murphy is a heart surgeon and Anna is an ophthalmologist, and they live in a big, cold, perfect house. Their private game goes like this: she takes off her robe, lies across the bed in her underwear, and goes completely limp, eyes closed, as if she were under general anesthesia. He comes to her like a surgeon to a patient. The first clip is that whole ritual, played with a totally straight face.
The second clip is darker in every way: Anna undressing by the bed and lying down beside him in a house where things are starting to go very wrong. The film turns into a nightmare about their family soon afterwards, and Kidman plays the rest of it with the same terrifying calm she brings to this scene.
