What happens in Big Little Lies
Celeste is a former lawyer with twin boys, a glass house on the ocean and a younger, gorgeous husband who adores her in public and hits her in private. The show never lets you forget both halves of that. In this scene she is in the shower, and if you look closely you can see bruises. Perry comes into the bathroom with a present, the apology that always follows, and it turns sexual.
It is not a love scene in the romantic sense, and it is not an assault either; it is the part of the cycle that keeps her there. Kidman told ELLE that many of the bruises on screen weren’t fake, and that for this shower scene she asked them not to cover her in makeup. “I also felt that the nudity was a part of it. It wasn’t about exploitation.” The show’s violent scenes aren’t on this site.
