There is no nudity in this scene and nobody touches anybody, and it is still the scene people at Cannes were talking about for the rest of the festival.
What happens in The Paperboy
Charlotte has been writing to Hillary Van Wetter for months, and this is the first time they are in the same room. It is a prison visiting room, with two reporters and Zac Efron’s paperboy sitting right there. Hillary, shackled, tells her what to do. She hitches up her skirt, rips open her pantyhose and does it, and the two of them climax across the table without ever laying a hand on each other.
The joke of the scene is the audience inside it: Matthew McConaughey trying to look professional, Efron looking like he has been hit by a bus. Lee Daniels shot it on her second day on set, the day after the washing machine. Kidman said she and Cusack never spoke to each other out of character, which explains a lot.
