What happens at the start of Babygirl
Romy and her husband Jacob, a theater director, are in bed. She is on top, she moans, he finishes, they tell each other they love each other. Then, when he is asleep, she gets up and walks naked down the long hallway of their apartment, lies on the floor of another room with a laptop and watches porn until she gets there on her own. Nobody says a word about it. Nobody has to.
Everything else in the film grows out of those two minutes: a woman who has built a perfect life and never been honest in it about what she wants. Kidman plays it with no vanity at all. The first shot is a close-up of her performing pleasure; the last is her face lit by a screen, actually feeling it.
