Anne Hathaway Mother Mary Nude Scene (2026)

David Lowery made a ghost story about a pop star, a dress and a broken friendship, cast Anne Hathaway as a stadium-sized icon and then drained most of the light out of the room. The bath scene is the one people pause, and then squint at.

Mother Mary (2026): masked in a claw-foot tub, the water turning red, then a crawl across a black floor and a run down a dark corridor (28s)

What happens in the bath

Hathaway plays Mother Mary, a world-famous singer preparing a comeback after an onstage accident, who runs to the English countryside to ask her estranged collaborator and former lover, the designer Sam Anselm (Michaela Coel), for one last dress. Something has followed her there. The film calls it a ghost. It looks a lot like red fabric and old grief.

In the clip, Mary lies in a white tub wearing an eye mask while Sam stands over her. She scrubs her face, lifts a hand out of the water, and then the water floods red. Next she’s out of the tub, a pale shape crawling across a black floor, and finally running down a dark corridor, wide-eyed. Common Sense Media calls it non-sexual nudity, seen mostly from behind with the rest lost in shadow, and that’s exactly right.

It isn’t erotic and isn’t trying to be. It’s the most striking image in an A24 film that grossed about $3 million, and the newest entry in all of Anne Hathaway’s on-screen nudity, ranked. Eighteen years earlier she did a very different bath scene in Rachel Getting Married.
