Before the film shows who Chuck Traynor really was, it shows what Linda thought love looked like. Those early scenes are the only ones that belong here.
What happens in Lovelace
Seyfried plays Linda Boreman at twenty-one, the woman who became Linda Lovelace and the face of Deep Throat. Filming ran from late December 2011 into February 2012, when she was 26. She watched the real Deep Throat after the first week of shooting, over Christmas break, and said it “didn’t change anything at all.” Peter Sarsgaard plays Chuck, and she called him “the best actor I’ve ever worked with.”
Everything usable comes from the early, consensual stretch, when the romance still looks like a romance and the seventies still look like a party. At 00:12:39 she’s topless in bed with Chuck, early in the relationship: Mr. Skin’s second-ranked Seyfried scene. At 00:40:50 there’s a topless photo session. At 00:32:36 she swims in bikini bottoms and nothing else, and at 00:18:01 she turns around on a beach and hands the lens her butt. She and Sarsgaard kept their genitals covered. “It’s like a costume,” she told IndieWire, adding that Chloe was the graphic one and this wasn’t.
The film later reframes the whole relationship as abuse, and that half stays off this page. Nobody needs a woman’s worst chapter cut into a highlight reel, least of all on a site that should know better.
