A doctor hires a call girl to test her husband, and somehow the two women end up testing each other instead. Julianne Moore signed on, Amanda Seyfried nearly ran, and the internet has been rewinding that hotel bed ever since.
What happens in Chloe
Seyfried plays Chloe Sweeney, an adult escort whom Catherine (Julianne Moore) pays to seduce her husband (Liam Neeson) and report back. Every report makes Catherine a little hungrier, which is the whole dirty engine of the movie. She only got the part because a friend backed out over the nudity, and producer Jason Reitman did some of the convincing. She was 23, shooting in Toronto in early 2009.
The scene everybody searches for comes at 00:59:36: two women in a hotel bed, staged, per NBC10, as one intricate movement shot seven times with a single camera. Moore’s breasts are in frame, and the side of Seyfried’s. Just before it, at 00:58:23, Moore unbuttons Chloe’s blouse and we see her left breast. Earlier, at 00:47:08, Chloe glances back through a doorway, butt and breast, and there’s a quieter mirror moment of her dressing, back and hip softened by decorated glass. That’s the set. She told Vulture she got “really scared” once Moore joined, and worried the nudity could “create some damage with my American audience.” She and Moore pushed for one change “to make it gentler,” and won. “Intimate scenes are awkward,” she said, possibly the most honest sentence ever spoken on a press tour. Awkward, and still the top card on every Amanda Seyfried nude scene, ranked. A few years later she was treating skin like costume work in the early Lovelace scenes.
