The film opens with this image and then spends the next ninety minutes explaining how a woman like Erika Tracy ends up face down in her own pool.
What happens in I Want Your Sex
Late in the story Erika summons Elliot to her house one more time, and she answers the door in a skimpy leather get-up that should come with a safety briefing. The night goes sideways, and when Elliot comes round he finds her floating naked in the pool, lit up blue from below. He hauls her out onto the deck and tries to bring her back, and the camera stays with her the whole time: eyes shut, soaking wet, not moving.
I won’t tell you how it turns out, except that this is a Gregg Araki film and nothing in it is quite what it looks like. What I will tell you is that it is the most striking image in the film, which is why Araki opens with it. Araki told IndieWire that Wilde had done plenty of nudity before and “was very comfortable in her body”; the quote is linked on the Olivia Wilde hub.
