The scariest thing in Lioness isn’t the cartel. It’s Joe McNamara walking into her own house and hearing nothing at all.
What happens in “Along Came a Spider”
By episode three, Joe has a new recruit she doesn’t trust and a target who, as she admits, carries out kidnappings on American soil. So when she gets home and the place is silent, she goes through it room by room, calling out for her husband.
She finds Neal in the bath with his headphones on, perfectly fine. He teases her for being so jumpy and asks, half-joking, whether they should be worried about kidnapping. His grin fades when she doesn’t say no. It’s a lovely little piece of acting from Saldaña: the operative’s dread draining into relief, and the relief turning into something warmer. From the tub they move to the bedroom, where she takes the lead, seen mostly from behind and in her underwear, in a scene that’s affectionate before it’s anything else.
Vulture’s recapper crowned Annable TV’s “devoted and devastatingly hot” house-partner, and he earns it here, playing a surgeon who’s learned that loving Joe means living with the fear too. Season two was shot from May to August 2024, when she was 45 and 46.
