Some premieres open with an explosion. Lioness opened its third season with Joe McNamara standing under hot water, which, if you know this show, is its own kind of warning shot.
What happens in “The Spider and the Fly”
The premiere dropped on Paramount+ on August 2, 2026, and it’s built like a trap. It jumps back six months to the Donetsk front, where Joe goes in with a Delta Force team to capture the head of a Russian hybrid-warfare unit, and it finishes with her home no longer safe: two men posing as Virginia State Police detectives try to break in, and Joe has to shoot them while Neal looks on in shock.
Before any of that, about three minutes in, she takes a long shower alone. No husband, no dialogue, no mission. Mr. Skin half-jokes that she deserves it, and honestly, that’s the right read. The nudity is from behind, with a glimpse from the side, and Saldaña, 47 when the season was shot between October 2025 and March 2026, plays it as one long exhale. It’s the last private breath the premiere allows her.
Mr. Skin put it third in its season-three top ten, so the audience noticed. The scene rhymes with her season 2 shower with Neal, almost two years earlier, except this time nobody’s waiting in there with her. The rest of her run is on every Saldaña scene we cover.
