In Robert Eggers’ The Witch, Sarah Stephens plays the witch in the red hood. The clip is 34 seconds at the mouth of a hut in the woods. The hood is up, the curls are dark, the bodice is laced, and she looks straight out of the doorway like the forest already belongs to her.
The still is a frame from those same seconds. Low light, a birch trunk, moss on the stone, and Sarah holding the shot without a word.
