What happens in the bedroom

By this point in the last season, Cassie is propping up a husband buried in debt, running an OnlyFans career with Maddy and trying to control a reputation that’s long gone. Nate is a mess, Maddy is a manager, and Cassie is the product. The show gives her one purely physical moment before the floor drops away, and shoots it like a memory she’s already losing.

It opens with her above the camera, topless, blonde hair everywhere, sunlight slatting across the ceiling like a cheap motel’s idea of romance. Then it gets strange. A shirtless young man in boxer briefs appears in a doorway, the bed empties, and suddenly Cassie is barefoot in a white slip, running down a pink hallway with another woman. Nobody explains; nobody needs to. Euphoria never lets pleasure last longer than a scene, and it wasn’t going to start in its final season.

One episode later the show was over. Sweeney has said she broke down when she read how Cassie’s story ends. This is one of the last times Cassie gets to be happy and reckless at the same time.
