What happens in the finale

It’s a small moment in a big finale. A wood-paneled living room is lit by lamps, with takeout and bottles on the coffee table, one guy sprawled shirtless with a bandage across his chest and another slumped on the couch. Faye wanders in wearing a little top and shorts, looking like she owns the place and is mildly disappointed in it, and drops onto the sofa.

Then the camera goes low and peeks at her through a narrow gap, the kind of keyhole framing that makes you feel caught looking. First there’s a flash of underwear, then her face fills the slot, staring straight back. The joke, and Euphoria knows it’s a joke, is that Faye has always been the one watching everybody else. It’s the trick the show has played on her since the kitchen: put her in the most exposed frame possible, then watch her refuse to look exposed.

The final hour doesn’t go easy on anyone. When the DEA finally comes down on the ranch, Faye is one of the few who gets away, running with Wayne. So enjoy the last look. She earned the exit.
